With the summer a distant memory and the rain and wind of winter settling in many golfers will be wondering how they will be able to get a round of golf in. Many courses are likely to be unfit to play but there is a select group of golf courses that will be open come wind, rain or shine. It is definitely worth noting them down and if you are in and around the areas it is worth going in for a round of golf.

Weston-super-Mare Golf Club

The Weston-super-Mare Golf Club is a great venue to test your skills on and is fortunate enough to be blessed with a year round course. It is very rare that the club is closed because of the rain and this is due to the brilliant drainage system it has. You need to make sure that you are concentrating on your golf and that your shots are accurate as you may end up slicing the ball into the Bristol Channel. Great views are also available here so you are sure to enjoy a good round if you choose to visit the Weston-super-Mare Golf Club.

Wychwood Park

Wychwood Park has played host to 2 Euro Pro Tour events so this shows how good the course is. This also means that the greens and fairways offer many challenges, especially at this time of year with the wind and rain making shots difficult to judge. It opened in 2002, making it one of the newest courses on the golfing map and the course designers have made full use of modern day technology.

The latest computer irrigation system means the course is in the best playing condition throughout the year. Go along to Wychwood, its located on the Cheshire plains and is certainly somewhere that will test the skills of even the best golfer. This is just one of the courses that you can use 2 for 1 golf vouchers on so you can save money as you play.

East Brighton

Considered as one of the best courses in the country, East Brighton is a par 72 course and has 6,346 yards of testing green to see how you fair against some of the best players in the world. The magnificent views that are available add icing to the cake. Its chalk base means the course is playable all year round and it is extremely easy to get to as it is just 2 miles from the city centre of Brighton.

See where you fancy playing a round of golf this winter but always ring ahead to check that the course will be open before heading there. These courses are most likely to be open so consider these first. These courses are hazardous so you need to make sure that you have adequate golf insurance.

Most golfers will say the hardest part of their game is focus. The mental side of golf is often misunderstood. Do you have a friend that golfs well on every round? Why is that? Practice makes perfect. What they don’t tell you, is what they practice at. When you are talking about a game that is referred to as 90% mental and 10% talent you have to work on your mental toughness. When overcoming that mental side of golf, do you try to change your equipment, the time at which you play, maybe even they guys you play with. Here are some tips that are going to help you be, the golfer, you always wanted to be.

The tempo of golf is often a concern for golfers. You are stuck behind a slow foursome, or maybe the guys behind you are rushing you, and you feel that pressure to golf faster. The tempo of the course should never affect the tempo of your swing. The tempo of your swing is so important; to achieve the desired results. How do I find MY tempo you ask? A golfer can find their tempo by doing these simple things:

SLOW DOWN!! I repeat slow down, everyone thinks the speed at which you swing dictates how far and accurate your ball will move. This is true is some instances, but, for the sake of this article we will not be discussing those concepts. No matter where you are playing or who you are playing with; the tempo you keep is is going to make you take the same back swing, have you contacting the ball the same, and allowing you to follow through the same every time. How are you going to get the tempo? Go to the driving range and practice with one club at a time. First hit 20 range balls with your driver, next hit 20 range balls with your 9 iron, Next your 3 wood and your 8 iron follow this method until you have hit every club in your bag. To perfect your back swing come to the same position every time. When you hit the ball you should be contacting at the same speed every time. People often think that the club should dictate your tempo, this could not be further from the truth. If you focus on your tempo you will see that by swinging all of your clubs the same your accuracy will improve drastically. Follow through is the same as your back swing you need to follow through the same on every shot. How you follow through directly affect your accuracy. When you focus on these three techniques you will find that your mental game will improve.

After the practice on the driving range is done you will want to head to the chipping green. Start by working with your wedges, then move on to you short irons. Practice 100 chips with each club. Start with your wedges in the deeper grass and focus not on getting in the hole but just putting the ball on the green. While working on chipping focus on your tempo, hit the ball the same every time. Remember chipping should be another tool in your arsenal and not the final result. Many careers have been made from singles and doubles hitters it is not just the home run hitters that decide how games turnout. The idea is to get on the green and let your putter do the work. The 8i and 9i will be used to work out the tempo of the bump and run technique. Tempo here is the key still but keep in mind that now you have too much club for such a short distance. Find your tempo and stick with it!! It would be like you are still hitting one of your wedges, you change clubs not the tempo!!

Putting Putting Putting! This is so hard to understand but why? Now we have gone from the Driving range to the chipping green to the putting green. What you want to practice here is the same thing! You want to work on your tempo. You putt the same every time, you will not be changing your swing ever. The only part about putting that changes is the distance. Start with 10 balls and putt then in from 1ft away from the hole. Move your self out 1ft for every 10 balls you sink in a row. Tempo is key when you are trying to stay focused.

The goal for these exercises is to teach your to go through the same steps every time. You are trying to create a tempo that you are going to follow, now matter what is going on around you. Seeing results is going to depend on how much time you take to find your tempo!! If you want the proven results of the pros you need to create a time line in your mind (90% mental) that you will follow no matter where you are, or whom you are playing with. By creating this method of training for your body, your mind will have no choice but to respond by focusing on what you are trying to do.

Golfing at Amazing Courses

Golf is meant to be a relaxing sport; it can also be a frustrating one if you don’t hit your shots correctly. A lot of golfers may become disillusioned with the sport if they are not getting any better, even with tuition. Golf can be incredibly rewarding and if you soldier on through your round you may even start to get a lower score without doing anything different. The main point to remember is to have the right mindset when playing as if you are stressed it is only going to carry through to your game.

A lot of golfers play at the weekend and after a hard week of work you may need the fresh air and pleasant surroundings of a golf course to unwind. This is good as you don’t want to be playing golf with lots of work related matters running through your head, ideally you should be focused on each hole individually.

By focusing on each hole you aren’t going to be pre-occupied with the poor performance you put in on the last hole. Obviously take heed of anything you did wrong on the previous hole such as putting too much power into your approach shot or taking your eye off the ball mid swing. Learn from previous mistakes but don’t dwell on them, professional golfers will not be worrying about whether they are below or over par, they are concentrating on how to approach the next hole and planning which shots to take. Golf tuition videos are a great way of improving your overall game and all widely available.

Before taking a swing you should take a practice swing to gauge how accurate you are, use a leaf or a tee in the ground to visualize the ball. If you are not anywhere near touching the marker or ground your club then you may be leaning too far forward or back. If you find your swing doesn’t have much consistency then tuition from a professional could help you develop the habits and technique that you’ll need in order to hit the ball cleanly every time. We can’t all be like Tiger Woods and we will occasionally make a wayward shot, to protect ourselves from any potential damage make sure you have adequate golf insurance.

Occasionally you may hit a bunker shot or fire the ball into the deep rough; this shouldn’t be a disaster some people treat it as. With practice these shots can actually be very simple to recover from and for pros all it means is getting on to the green a little later than planned. The important thing to remember is to not be afraid of playing the ball back on to the fairway to the side or backwards, some shots forward may not be possible with tall grass, trees and other objects blocking your shot. This can mean the difference between an extra shot and five or six spent hacking away at the undergrowth.

How we play golf has changed and a lot of that change has to do with the clubs we use. The long-established iron set is more or less dead, as most iron manufacturers now sell sets that start at the 4 or even 5-irons in answer to the ever increasing popularity of hybrid clubs of hybrid golf clubs among most players. It stands to reason, as for most club golfers hybrids are significantly more forgiving to play than the corresponding iron.

The USGA and the R&A place a limit on the size of driver heads. For conforming drivers that limit is 460 cc and most club golfers would do well to play to that limit. If you struggle with reliability with your driver, moving to a bigger sized driver will almost certainly help. Pushing the weight to the perimeter of the these big drivers and new square and triangular designs means the modern driver is far more forgiving, even from miss-hits. Bigger drivers allow for a bigger margin of error.

As with all clubs, the shaft is the engine of your driver. Get the shaft wrong and your accuracy and distance from the tee will suffer. Most common faults can be reduced or even eliminated simply by playing the right shafts. Struggling with a slice, a more flexible shaft might do the trick. A lot of golfers struggle with getting any height on their drives. Shafts with softer tips could well be the solution to that problem. Match your swing speed to the proper shaft and your odds of success will improve. If you’ve never measured your swing speed, the majority of shaft ratings will incorporate a carry approximation for calculating your best flex. Check the ratings for various shafts and match your normal carry distance to a flex rating.

Hybrid clubs are the top developing segment in golf equipment sales. If you struggle with reliability with your long irons, some easy-to-hit hybrids could well be your best choice. Extremely forgiving and very versatile from all kind of lie, hybrids play equally well from the tee, fairway and even the rough. These are clubs that are designed to launch high, so most shaft companies are marketing specialty shafts built with this in mind.

Iron designs now come in an even wider range of options. Modern irons can help many of the most frequent swing faults. Slices can be eliminated with offset iron designs, for many who struggle with the fat shot and need extra height on their iron shots, wide sole models can help. Check the features of your irons. If their design doesn’t give you the help you need, then it’s probably time for an upgrade.

There are plenty of options to choose from in the scoring clubs as well. Forgiving wedge designs mean you don’t have to make any compromises with your wedge play anymore. If you have problems playing little flop-shots then high lofted wedges are there to help. If you have trouble getting out of bunkers, choose an easy to hit hollow sand wedge. These hollow wedges are almost impossible to miss-hit and make easy work of just about any bunker.

Recent changes in equipment rules now allow for some pretty bizarre looking putter designs. Bizarre looking, but highly effective. If you struggle with the flat stick, one of the new forgiving putter designs might be the best choice. Closing the putter too much towards the hole? You probably miss a lot of putts to the left (for a right handed golfer) and playing a face balanced putter could well be the best option for you.

Choosing the right golf clubs for your game is about playing clubs that make the most of your strengths and minimize your weaknesses. It doesn’t need to break the bank either. There are very high quality clubs to choose from in the component market. As an added bonus, these component clubs can be custom built to fit your game and that’s the best way to play the right clubs.

Quality golf clubs needn’t cost an arm and a leg. Our clone golf clubs only use the highest quality materials and components and are the best way to play the right golf clubs for your game. Full custom build service available.
