The laws of golf?

Frank Heyes asked:

The laws of golf
LAW 1: No matter how bad your last shot was, the worst is yet to come. This law does not expire on the 18th hole, since it has the supernatural tendency to extend over the course of a tournament, a summer and, eventually, a lifetime.

LAW 2: Your best round of golf will be followed almost immediately by your worst round ever. The probability of the latter increases with the number of people you tell about the former.

LAW 3: Brand new golf balls are water-magnetic. Though this cannot be proven in the lab, it is a known fact that the more expensive the golf ball, the greater its attraction to water.

LAW 4: Golf balls never bounce off of trees back into play. If one does, the tree is breaking a law of the universe and should be cut down.

LAW 5: No matter what causes a golfer to muff a shot, all his playing partners must solemnly chant “You looked up,” or invoke the wrath of the universe.

LAW 6: The higher a golfer’s handicap, the more qualified he deems himself as an instructor.

LAW 7: Every par-three hole in the world has a secret desire to humiliate golfers. The shorter the hole, the greater its desire.

LAW 8: Topping a 3-iron is the most painful torture known to man.

LAW 9: Palm trees eat golf balls.

LAW 10: Sand is alive. If it isn’t, how do you explain the way it works against you?

LAW 11: Golf carts always run out of juice at the farthest point from the clubhouse.

LAW 12: A golfer hitting into your group will always be bigger than anyone in your group. Likewise, a group you accidentally hit into will consist of a football player, a professional wrestler, a convicted murderer and an IRS agent — or some similar combination.

LAW 13: All 3-woods are demon-possessed.

LAW 14: Golf balls from the same “sleeve” tend to follow one another, particularly out of bounds or into the water (See Law three).

LAW 15: A severe slice is a thing of awesome power and beauty.

LAW 16: “Nice lag” can usually be translated to “lousy putt.” Similarly, “tough break” can usually be translated “way to miss an easy one, sucker.”

LAW 17: The person you would most hate to lose to will always be the one who beats you.

LAW 18: The last three holes of a round will automatically adjust your score to what it really should be.

LAW 19: Golf should be given up at least twice per month.

LAW 20: All vows taken on a golf course shall be valid only until the sunset.

hybrid golf clubs
Chronos asked:

I used a borrowed set of Pings for a couple years, but now want to purchase my own clubs. I was seriously looking at a set of Adams Idea a2 OS clubs… but the price just for a hybrid/iron set is $499. That’d leave me to purchase a 3 and 5 wood at about $100 each, a driver at about $1-200. Plus a bag at another $70-100, and a putter at about $50. That’s $8-900… more than I was thinking of spending.

I wanted to use a hybrid set since I (like other beginners) have trouble with the long irons. I checked on some used clubs, but for hybrids I found that the used irons aren’t much cheaper (read: $70) than the new set. For drivers and fairway woods, I can get some good deals. Putters are a wash.

The irons I am considering: http://www.adamsgolf.com/Ideaa2a2OSHybrids.htm

If you can suggest hybrid irons, or a complete set of irons, woods, and driver… that would be nice. (I’ll probably pick up a couple wedges and putter separately, and I can manage picking out the bag).

Craig G asked:

Junior golf is the key, but surely we need a school of golf with the support of our so called stars working together. Theres a degree in golf in birmingham, but thats not soon enough, i loved golf from the age of 8, so its gotta start around that age if not sooner. And lets not forget those that cant afford it, DJ Spoony is doing a good job about that and I have seen potential in pleny of “less fortunate” children, but the backing just aint there or the advise as to where they go. Was Tigers dad rich when he nurtured him from the age of 4? I doubt it. Its all too individual, we need to combine our efforts and therefore draw on each others experience to help address this situation. The spanish appear to be able to do it, as do the US or even Sweden. WHY?? Theres gotta be something. Yes it requires money, but hell, golf has money if channelled correctely. Lets not be a tennis flop. Faldo is trying his hardest, lets get behind him and more. It needs a bigger push for sure.

I ? animals asked:

I’m thinking of joining the golf team next year for my last PE credit, instead of having to go to PE. I know absolutely nothing about Golf, and I am a very slow learner. Also if you’re on the golf team at my school you have to compete. Would I be better off to go to PE or be on the golf team?
Ok I will, thanks!

Jake asked:

I am looking to replace some of my golf clubs. I would like to replace my driver, irons, and hybrid. All other clubs are newer. I don’t really care about price. I would like to get clubs that came out just this year. However, I will try everything. I also have no preference in brand.

What do you think of these irons:
Cleveland CG Golf
Nike CCI Forged
Callaway X-20 Tour

Drivers:
Taylormade Burner
R7 Superquad
Sumo
Titleist D1

Hybrids:
Taylormade Rescue Dual
Taylormade Burner Hybrid
Ping Rapture
Adams Idea Pro
Adams A3 Boxer

I have hit most of them, but I will hit one type of club per trip to the golf store due to time, like one day hybrids the other driver, etc. I am only looking for one hybrid now, but may get another in the future. I also am thinking of switching to Taylormade golf balls which would be better Red or Black. My handicap is 11. What are the main differences between them.

Thanks.
I am not buying them all in the same trip. I am buying one item at a time, like one day irons, the other driver, the other hybrid. Kind of like that.

Rebel Man asked:

I was wondering if it’s more common for high school golf teams to be coed or split by gender. Where I went to school in Mississippi golf teams are coed. Boys and girls play from different tee boxes, but their scores count equally. But in Tennessee, high schools have boys and girls golf teams. I’m not sure about other states. I’ve seen other posters on here mention “girls golf” or “boys golf” teams before, and I know colleges have men’s and women’s teams.

I was wondering if Mississippi is a rare case, and more states do it the way Tennessee does. There weren’t a lot of girls who played when I was in high school, which I guess is why it’s coed, actually some schools had trouble getting enough boys to play. Golf is the only high school sport that’s coed in Mississippi, or at least it was of the sports that were offered at the high school I went to.

x0_Angel_Love_0x asked:

Dear Answerers…,
I am going to Disney World on Sunday, and my dad loves to golf. We are starting to pack, and he can’t decide if he should bring his golf-clubs with him. I tried looking on the website if there was a golf course, but then again, I suck at finding things. I only found minature golf. Is there a golf course somewhere at Disney World? We are not renting a car, so he won’t be able to leave the park, if he’d like to go golfing. We’d like to find him a golf course to make daddy happy. Can you help?

Sincerely,
Angel, Niko, and Sammy T.
